A Mission Born from a Personal Call to Serve

The inspiration for Bright Sky Ministry came in 2017 when Justin and Jessica participated in a church class called Family ID. This class encouraged them to reflect on their talents and resources and how they were fulfilling God’s call to serve. They realized that they wanted to do more to demonstrate God’s love and make a tangible difference in their community.

Shortly after, a personal experience helped shape the direction of their calling. Close friends from church, who had just welcomed two kinship foster children into their home, reached out to the Davises for help. These children arrived with nothing but the clothes on their backs, and their foster family needed essentials—quickly. Justin and Jessica rallied their resources, finding and delivering items to help the children settle into their new environment. That simple act of service was a turning point for them. It opened their eyes to the growing need for support that many foster families faced, not only in their community but throughout the entire state.

Driven by faith and compassion, the couple launched Bright Sky Ministry, with a mission to make sure that every foster family had the essentials needed to care for children in their homes. The ministry embodies their belief in God’s command to care for orphans and widows, serving as a way to embrace and live out this biblical message. In its first year, Bright Sky assisted about 30 children. Today, the ministry has grown exponentially, serving nearly 1,000 foster children each year.

Foster Care Essentials: A Lifeline for Foster Families

At the heart of Bright Sky Ministry is the Foster Care Essentials program. This initiative, spearheaded by Justin and Jessica, provides foster families with the necessary items to ensure children feel safe, comfortable, and loved in their new homes. The program focuses on delivering new, high-quality essentials directly to foster families—whether it’s a bed for a growing child, a car seat for an infant, or clothing for siblings placed in care. By meeting these basic needs, Bright Sky helps ease the burden on foster families and ensures that children in care feel supported by both their foster parents and the broader community.
Since 2018, the Foster Care Essentials program has helped over 3,500 children, providing crucial support to families at a time of need. The Davises and their team take pride in making sure every child feels loved, and their families feel cared for.

The true impact of Bright Sky Ministry is perhaps best expressed through the words of the foster families they have helped. One foster parent shared:

“We received a baby boy on Friday and by Monday morning we got a call telling us that our resource worker reached out for what we needed for baby. Within an hour, Bright Sky had ordered the items we needed and had them shipped directly to our house. It’s amazing how blessed we feel from the kind actions!”

Another family spoke to the unpredictability of foster care and how having Bright Sky as a support system made all the difference:

“There are so many unknowns when you say ‘yes’ to foster care. Being someone who likes to be prepared, I’ve learned that God laughs when I try to control things that aren’t mine. We’ve now had four placements, and not one has started the same. Knowing that we have this extra support truly helps us handle what we need to as it comes.”

For some families, the essentials Bright Sky provides have been literal life-savers. One foster parent shared their experience of welcoming an infant with limited resources:

“I just received placement of a four-week-old baby who had three onesies and an unsafe car seat. I sent Bright Sky Ministries an email desperately requesting help for a safe car seat. They immediately responded in less than 24 hours and told me that they could help, no problem. They even followed up with an email once things were ordered and called me to make sure I didn’t need anything else. As they say, it takes a village to raise a child, and they are so right. Thank you for everything!”

Community Engagement and Growth

Bright Sky Ministry’s success is a testament to the generosity and support of the community. From direct communication with foster families and caseworkers to annual fundraising events like the Bright Sky Open golf tournament, the ministry continues to raise awareness for the foster care cause. The Davises emphasize the importance of encouraging foster parents not just with material support but with words of appreciation, love, and acknowledgment for the vital work they do.
While Bright Sky has grown significantly over the past few years, their mission remains the same: to serve more foster families and provide them with the resources they need. However, the organization faces ongoing challenges as the demand for their services increases. One of the biggest hurdles they face is securing enough donations to meet the growing needs of the foster community.

As Bright Sky Ministry continues to expand, one of Justin and Jessica’s primary goals is to double their capacity for purchasing essential items within the next year. This growth is only possible through the generosity of donors and community partners who believe in their mission. The ministry is committed to meeting the ever-increasing demand for their services and ensuring that every foster child has the essentials they need to thrive.
